There are serveral types of policy to offer: Accident and Sickness, Unemployment, Combined, Private Medical Insurance and Income Protection Insurance. An accident and sickness policy protects you if you were unable to follow your normal occupation as a result of sickness or accidental injury. The injury need not have been caused at work - it could have been, for instance, caused on a football pitch. In general you can select levels of benefit for : death, loss of eye(s), loss of limb(s), temporary total disablement and permanent total disablement. For temporary total disablement you will be paid for a stated period - often 52 or 104 weeks and for sickness 52 weeks. You should realise that an accident and sickness policy is an annual policy which can be changed from year to year so that if, for example, you were sick with an illness that could reoccur then the company could exclude claims arising from that condition in the future or even refuse to invite renewal of the policy altogether. |
